1989. The fall of the Berlin Wall. One man is caught between East and West…
The Stasi was among the most sophisticated intelligence organisations in the world, but by the end of the 1980s the Orwellian state of East Germany was collapsing around it.
Dr Rudolf Rosenharte is an academic from Dresden and agent for MI6. When Rosenharte’s security is compromised he is faced with a stark choice: to defect to the West, leaving his beloved family to the mercies of the Stasi, or return to East Germany to carry out a dangerous assignment under the Stasi’s suspicious eye..
The author notes:
“East Germany was the only member of the communist bloc to disappear asa state. A decade and half after the wall came down and the process of German unification began, most people would be hard pressed to trace the border between East and West Germany on a map. The very idea of two Germanies of an Iron Curtain slicing across Europe, seems astonishing today, especially to those born after 1975.
..on Thursday 9th November 1989 East Germans masse at the border crossings and West Germans climbed onto the Wall in front of the Brandenberg Gate to demand its destruction
Afterwards one million East Germans demonstrated against their government in Alexanderplatz”
