Travel Guide

France and Devon

Not a great book for real locations but it’s great for psychological torment and if you are in Devon and see some Russian dolls in a shop, they will put a fear to end all fears in your heart.

Simonsbridge is fictional but sounds like a nice little village where the man who lost his girlfriend when she disappeared from the side of the road in France now lives with her sister. They used to live in  St Mary’s where he still has a house and where neighbour Thomas Winter is just the curious and nosy old man you  don’t need when trying to escape your past.

There is a sense of claustrophobia and twitching curtains in both of these places as the characters try to escape the past but then it confronts them so they have to face up to it whether they want to or not. The villages close in on themselves and reduced in size. Is everyone watching them?

Megeves

Apopular skiing resort in France which is only briefly mentioned as the place the couple are returning home from when the woman goes mising. Creepy scenes on the night in question. will make you question where you stop at the side of the road in future!
