Jan Fabel has to deal with one of his most horrific cases yet when the body of a young girl is found, posed on a Hamburg beach. There is a message concealed in her hand. ‘I have been underground, and now it is time for me to return home…’

Working for the Hamburg Murder Squad, Jan struggles to interpret the twisted imagery that this murder conjures up. Four days later, a man and a woman are found deep in woodland, their throats slashed deep and wide, the names ‘Hansel’ and ‘Gretel’, in the same tiny, obsessively neat writing, rolled tight and pressed into their hands.

More murders and more references to the folk stories of the Brothers Grimm.But this is a lot more grim that the name would suggest and things are about to get darker still.
