Robin Pagham has been found dead – a sailing accident it would seem. But then everyone knows that Robin liked his drink. Along with the drugs and the women he favoured the drink was his best and most common companion. But having not found any drink in his systems, the mystery deepens. He was a violent man who liked to think a bit of acting on the side of his day job had made him famous. Plenty of people disliked him, but enough to kill?
At the funeral, there is a shock announcement and Elsie and Ethelred begin to investigate Robin’s death in their very own particular style.
The village of West Wittering is a nice little village situated on the western coast of the Seley Peninsula in Sussex with lots of land and beaches nearby.
Robin was not the first son of West Wittering to meet a tragic end at sea, nor would he be the last.”
It’s said that the first invading Saxons landed here. Well, In this novel the villagers are experiencing a different kind of invasion when one of the area’s local landowners dies in strange circumstances.
From the opening scene in the local church, this is also a place for dry wit:
“It was not the liveliest of wakes”
The whole village then finds out a great deal at the funeral and finds out about the real truth about Mr Pagham and his debts. His fiance wants to find the culprit but it’s not until a journalist asks Ethelred for help that he steps in. His former agent is more than intrigued – a chance for a holiday in a lovely village with a murder to boot!
The village is full of weird and wonderful characters – and of course the local rumour mill goes into overdrive but there are some who are likened to blundering like an absentminded elephant! Those investigating head over to Chichester to find some clues in the library and other sites but there just seems to be more mystery. Having said that is someone called Tom offers to take you to the Festival Theatre.…
