FBI Special Agent Matthew Roarke’s hunt for the serial killer in book two may be over but there is no time to rest. He is still recovering over the trauma he himself faced at the hands of the murderer. He is also haunted by Cara, the woman who he hunted for during his last case.
Suddenly there are pimps turning up dead on the streets of the city. A young prostitute also goes missing who witnessed Cara’s most recent murder. The MO is eerily similar to Cara’s handiwork.
Could it be possible that San Francisco is now the hunting ground for a killer more deadlier that it has ever known?
This view of San Francisco is grim and dark. The streets are the hunting ground of child traffickers, druggies and similar.
This is the story of those lost girls who, having been promised a new and better life, comes to the US, to San Francisco and end up working in the Tenderloin area of the city.
The Tenderloin was San Francisco’s famous sex district and the name apparently refers to either the soft underbelly of the city or the loins of the prostitutes. Still, an apt name for the area portrayed in this story of trafficking and worse.
The gangs and pimps who now rule the roost here are making money and kidnapping more girls to make even more money.
Even though Cara is in prison in the story, her view of the city and the world of prostitution and the definition of evil is a shocking and bitter landscape to visualise. But statistics, shocking and unbelievable statistics build up a picture of the extent of this world –
This San Francisco is awash with crimson – blood trails everywhere and darker secrets around each street corner. Roarke and Cara’s relationship continues to develop – and makes you ask yourself questions. Cara is killing those who commit evil. Can this ever be excused or explained?
