2000s: What happens when a deadly fungus starts to spread across the world?
When Pentagon bioterror operative Roberto Diaz was sent to investigate a suspected biochemical attack, he found something far worse: a highly mutative organism capable of extinction-level destruction. He contained it and buried it in cold storage deep beneath a little-used military repository.
Now, after decades of festering in a forgotten sub-basement, the specimen has found its way out and is on a lethal feeding frenzy. Only Diaz knows how to stop it.
He races across the country to help two unwitting security guards –one an ex-con, the other a single mother. Over one harrowing night, the unlikely trio must figure out how to quarantine this horror again. All they have is luck, fearlessness, and a mordant sense of humour. Will that be enough to save all of humanity?
(Western ) Australia
In 1987 scientists in Australia are puzzled about the events which have taken place in a small rural town where everyone has disappeared. Not only did this town disappear but something bad and unexplainable happened as research reveals that a rare and extremely deadly fungus killed them. This fungus seems to have originated from outerspace and fell to earth. The town and its people are no more and the landscape; raw, deadly and dangerous is exciting to revisit when you realise what must have happened here.
America – MI, MO, IA
The scientists take the fungus back to America and store it in a supposedly secure facility. Plans are made to have this in stock for the use in future biological weapons. It stays forgotten however, until, suddenly, it can’t be ignored anymore.
Several places are mentioned in terms of where characters live and find bits of this fungus, military institutions also come into play. The setting is the entire world though – and the urgency with which a deadly fungus or disease can spread from one country to another.
International intrigue galore!
