Set in Cuba in 1898, at the time that the USS dreadnought Maine exploded mysteriously in Havana, sinking with great loss of life.
This event marked the start of the Spanish/American war and so was not a good time to be in Cuba. However this is where Ben Tyler, a former prisoner from Yuma ends up. When he becomes involved in a horse and gun trading trek to Cuba, things start to go wrong as soon as he gets off the boat.
Then things get worse and before long, he ends up in one of the worse prisons on the island. Will he ever escape or even survive?
An historical moment in Cuba in 1898, at the time that the USS dreadnought Maine exploded mysteriously in Havana, sinking with great loss of life. The Spanish/American war followed not long after so this was a significant moment in time for Cuba and of course Ben Tyler. Maybe a gun running expedition is not such a good idea. But against this fictional character and his dealings we see the world events such as the sinking of the Maine and the Spanish soldiers not to mention al the underhand dealings of a society in confusion and flux.
