What you need to know before your trail

Kimmie’s home is on the streets of Copenhagen. Living on the street means she has to be on her wits the entire time. She’s need them if she’s to avoid those trying to find her..those who want her to meet her final resting place.

Detective Carl Mørck of Department Q, wants to find her too – to see if she can help with a cold case. She could know secrets from powerful people, secrets that certain people want to stay buried.

Question is who will get to Kimmie first and just why should this cold case in particular have been placed on Carl’s desk now…

Travel Guide

This is the world of Kimmie, a girl who lives on her nerves on the streets of Copenhagen. The city through her eyes is not one you will recognise since her view of the city is quite different to yours or ours –

“When she ventured down the pedestrian street called Stroget, she was poised as if on the edge of a knife”

When Kimmie is in a crowd at the station near to the Tivoli gardens, there is panic in her eyes and voices in her head. The normalcy of situations take on a new immediacy and highlight Kimmie’s Copenhagen:

“Kimmie glanced up at the streets lights that threw an ice brightness across Vesterbrogade”

Kimmie knows its people and its streets like no other. Then we see a part of the city Kimmie has not yet seen – Department Q and its darkened offices in the basement of police headquarters. Carl is not happy to be there, yet the only bright spot is created by Assad – trying to brighten up the place with a bunch of flowers. Grumpy Carl merely sees darkness. the holiday spirit he’s returned with, long gone.

He sees Copenhagen with suspicious eyes – this time going back to a case of  double murder in 1987 which took place near Dybeso near Rorvig. He remembers his own happy memories of that year – a young love affair in the Rosenborg Castle Gardens but that’s the only happy memory that surfaces.

The cold case takes him back to less happy memories and a year which proves to be hard to swallow. The criminal Bjarne Thogerson who is now in Bridloselille State prison in Albertslund county is only one difficult part of the puzzle

Back to 1987 and the lead up to the murder of two youngsters….and the collusion of the two sides to Copenhagen which gives a picture of a city as if it were a map on a table and the lonely light  of Department Q above it swings in like a Newtons cradle –  each image banging into the next one and crashing your perception into smithereens.
