Travel Guide

A trail of three countries – Diverted Traffic

Pune, Maharashtra- a village on the banks of the Mula River

“Darkness came down early on the village that night and slowly the noise and activity in each household died down. The cow had been
tethered outside the hut, and the poultry settled for the night. Mukesh climbed onto the only bed in the house, quickly falling into a deep
sleep. With the coming of Holi, Mukesh spent most of his days with the other men in the village drinking bhang, an intoxicating
concoction specially prepared for the festival.”

Amsterdam

Edinburgh

“The traffic around the city centre was heavy and the pavements congested with local shoppers and tourists as Ellie drove along Princes
Street and then out of the city towards Queensferry Road, taking her eventually to the quieter streets of Barnton, the attractive suburb she called home. She steered her car into a space in the underground parking lot of an apartment block, unloaded the luggage.”

The One O’clock Gun

The firing of the ‘One O’clock Gun’ on the north side of Edinburgh Castle reminded her it was lunchtime and she decided to take a short
break if for no other reason than to have a walk in the fresh air and grab a sandwich to keep her going through the rest of the day. Ellie
found the sound of the gun firing every day a comfort, a feeling of security, and as all Edinburghers do, she checked her watch to make sure it was at the right time.
