Matilda Haycastle, is a Brit in Brussels. Matilda only knows Connie Trevor though a friend of a friend but when she falls to return from a holiday and none of her friends seems to know where she is, Matilda is more concerned than most.
If anyone is going to notify the police of Connie’s disappearance, it’s going to be up to Matilda and no one else. But how can she expect to report the disappearance of a woman she’s never even seen? Matilda starts her own investigation and meets an arrogant Inspector – Inspector Vanderauwera. Soon Matilda realizes that there are a lot of people telling dreadful lies
A murder mystery around the streets of Brussels is an interesting way to discover the city. There are so many alleyways and old cobbled streets that no matter where you go, this novel could easily take you there.
The novel is short and doesn’t give a tour of the city as so much of a taste of the multicultural layers that make up the city and the bureaucracy that stands on every street corner.
For any Brit in Brussels, the area of expats does tend to be around the European Quarter – certainly for students and for those working in the European Commission so this should be a start for any tour of the expat side to the capital city of Belgium.
