2000s: The glamour of Hollywood. The magic of the Tuscan countryside. One big decision…
Beatrice Kingdom (Bee to her friends) wakes up in hospital in Tuscany. After an accident on a film set leaves her burned and scarred, she feels her whole life has been turned upside down.
Bee is offered the chance of recuperating in a stunning Tuscan villa in the company of a world-famous film star, the irascible Mimi Robertson. Here amid the vines and olive groves, Bee quickly finds there’s more to the place than meets the eye, not least a certain Luca (and Romeo the dog).
As she comes to terms with her injuries and her new life takes shape, Bee will have to travel a road of self-discovery… and make a huge decision
TA Williams is an evocative writer who loves to paint a scene of rural bliss with his words. The story starts off in Siena where the movie star has been injured and where she stays in the Grand Continental hotel to relax and recuperate. Wouldn’t it be brilliant to stay here and read this very book!?
Rural Tuscany
They move to a remote location and an even remoter villa. It’s called Villa of Montegrifone and is sadly fictional (there is a Monte Grifone national park in Sicily however!) but it sounds lovely!
Virtually everywhere she looked, there were just woods, fields, trees and vines.”
It sounds lovely:
“From where the driver had stopped the sleek back car, the ground sloped steeply down through dense woodland that lined the hilltop until the trees gave way to a tapestry of vineyards further down, the regular, mathematically arranged rows giving the whole valley the impression of a knitted patchwork quilt. The countryside was a symphony of different shades of green, from the deep lustrous colour of the hollies and conifers to the more delicate shades of the deciduous trees and the bright green of the new growth on the vines.”
Gayle doesn’t know what it’s going to be like living in the middle of nowhere especially when she’s going to have to look after a traumatized Hollywood actress.
