2000s: A chilling look at Stockholm’s underworld
2000s: A chilling look at Stockholm’s underworld
Easy Money – isn’t that what everyone would like? In Stockholm, three people are after it in particular and this is their story.
Jorge is out for revenge after being left to take the flack in a coke deal gone wrong,
Mrado is a hit man and JW is a kid just starting out in the murky drugs world – all to impress his mates.
What follows is their attempts to get their hands on this easy money in any way they see fit. Their world is dark and explicit, as is their actions and language. These people are desperate and devious – all they are bothered about is getting their hands on more cocaine and more money. Never mind who they hurt or cross on the way.
This is not the side of Stockholm you will ever see on the tourist websites and it goes to say that it is not the side of Stockholm you would want to see. This is the ugly dirty underbelly of the city built on the water and makes you see the stunning parks and waterways in a very different light.
JW lives in Stockholm and drives a taxi illegally around the trendy area of Stureplan where all the young people hang out of bars, posing and driving their flash cars. He also hangs out there with the pretty boys and the rich kids leading a lifestyle of the ‘stekare’ – a rich kid who loves to show off . Leading this double life isn’t easy however so when the taxi boss offers him the chance to sell cocaine too, this is when we go underground into the dark, violent part of Stockholm
One port of call is Österåker prison as Jorge escapes from here and then tries to flee the country but someone wants to see what he learnt in prison….the three characters are set to meet in the most violent part of the word.
This is not the Stockholm on any tourist guide -the language, the dialogue, the violence might be too explicit for some but you’ll never look at some places in the same way again. Stureplan seems so flashy yet innocent…
