In the summer of 1944 Gertraud Weisker 20 years old when her cousin Eva Braun invited her to come and keep her company at Berchtesgaden. This is the story of her fascination with the easy, glamourous lifestyle of her cousin and the gradual realisation of the dark history unfolding around it
Berchtesgaden is a charming little mountain town, which was also a Nazi stronghold .
Hitler’s retreat in the mountains of Bavaria was one of the most important centres of government in the Third Reich. Hitler was said to have spent more time in the Berghof than in his Berlin office.
Although this is a fictional tale, this story of Eva Braun is based on fact. Gertrude Weiske was Eva Braun’s real cousin and was the inspiration for the main character of Marlene.
Events as portrayed in the novel took place in 1944 as Eva was at home alone and getting lonely since Hitler was away, waging war in Prussia. This was about a year before the 2WW came to an end
