What you need to know before your trail

One day in 1986, life changed for ever for the people of Chernobyl. It was also the day that teenager Afia Bello vanished from her home without a trace.

Her younger sister Sissy searches for clues and answers in the chaos and tragedy that has befallen her city and her family. She unwittingly finds clues to her sister’s secret life and starts to wonder more about what her disappearance really means.

2015:  Private Detective Alex Harvey is hired to investigate the disappearances that have been occurring within the so- called ‘Exclusion zone’ – the area in and around the Chernobyl power plant

He can think of only one person to bring along with him to help; Ukrainian national Elian Gould.

Elian has her own reasons for accepting the job. She is keen to find out more about her own past.

There are many more secrets to be uncovered in the Exclusion Zone, and those inside Chernobyl might not be ready to give anything away.

Travel Guide

Chernobyl – 26 April 1986

Everyone remembers where they were when they heard about the Nuclear disaster in 1986. It is something which quite literarily scared the country and indeed the world. Reactor number 4 exploded. Afia and Sissy’s father works at the plant

So imagine that this is the dark bleak setting for another, equally horrific series of events. Namely Afia’s disappearance.

At the time of the explosion, Chernobyl was in Russia. Now it’s part of the Ukraine. The town of Pripyat was specifically set up as a  town for the workers of the plant to live there, to look after the plant and act as its official guardians. It took officials almost two days to give the orders for the citizens here to leave. But sadly it was too late for many who had already been poisoned by the radiation fallout.

This is a dark and desolate city. A destroyed city and one ravaged by history and now murder.
