A picture of India is told via various parts of a very rich quilt
A picture of India is told via various parts of a very rich quilt
Drifting off to sleep beneath a picture-quilt made by a globetrotting aunt, the book’s young narrator becomes a bright blue mouse, swept away on an unexpected trip to India…or is it India?
Travel via a quilt – a kind of magic carpet – which goes all across a land of discovery….
“My Aunt came back from India
With stories of places to which she had been
To warm me through winter, she sewed me a quilt
With pictures of all the things she had seen….”
The idea of the quilt is heavily inspired by Indian tradition. Women there take great pride in completing quilts and use them to record their family history, art, labour and their memories.
