The year is going to be a troublesome and deadly one for the people of London, the Fifth monarchists are planning to assassinate King Charles II and the city is like a tinder box. This is also a year where many believe is the year where by the number in it, is going to be an evil one and the sense of foreboding is palpable.
An assassination attempt is made on the King whilst he’s watching a play in the theatre but thwarted but those who want him dead are not finished yet.
Pitman and Coke are the city’s only hope – one is a thief-taker and Coke is a reformed highwayman. Sarah Chalker, Coke’s fiance has problems of her own.
And the year of the fire of London brings its own problems not to mention, a new plague…

The Fire of London
The Great Fire of London raged for three days from Sunday, 2 September to Wednesday, 5 September 1666.

Pudding Lane – Where the fire started
Museum of London – There is an exhibition of some of the items found in the fire here
Monument to the Fire – A Monument to those who died
Samuel Pepys – The Navy Office in Seething Lane was where Pepys lived and worked from 1660.
Salisbury Court – One of Samuel Pepys favourite theatres destroyed in the fire of London was located here. There is a blue plaque to mark its location
