2000s: A missing child is found, but that’s just the start…
When 11 year old Evan vanishes without trace, his parents are plunged into their worst nightmare. Especially as the police, under massive pressure, have no answers.
But months later Evan is unexpectedly found, frightened and refusing to speak. His loving family realise life will never be the same again.
DI Naylor knows that unless those who took Evan are caught, other children are in danger. And with Evan silent, she must race against time to find those responsible…
Given the themes of child kidnap in the book, many locations are vague or fictional. However, Ferrybridge is a major setting as is the Yorkshire countryside in and around the town. The child is taken from Berkshire but this only appears as vague in the novel.
There’s a second case which takes readers to Hartlepool and Durham way, but again locations are vague and hard to pin down. There’s a nice visit to three places in the book however – Betty’s tea room in Harrogate and the RHS gardens of Hyde Hall. Characters visit both of these places so worth a look!
When you are dealing with a missing child, the landscape is always going to be one of pain, trauma and the sense of feeling lost.
