1924: The true story of a cute dog who waited patiently for nine years after his master’s death
Hachikō was an Akita dog born on a farm near the city of Ōdate, Akita Prefecture, Japan.
He became the national hero of Japan when he showed such remarkable loyalty to his owner by going to the train station and meet him from his return home from work.
Hachikō would leave their house to greet him at the end of each day at the nearby Shibuya Station. Sadly one day, his owner didn’t return one day. He had suffered a brain hemorrhage and died.
But still the dog returned to the station every day for the next nine years, nine months and fifteen days, Hachikō awaited Ueno’s return, appearing precisely when the train was due at the station.
