2000s: A woman returns to Crete and falls in love again – but in a very unexpected way
One magical summer Nell fell in love in the mountains of Crete and her life changed for ever.
Eighteen years later, Nell is ready for a new beginning. When she sees a honey farm in the same hilltop town has lost its bees, the opportunity is impossible to resist. Welcomed back to Greece by the warm sun and aroma of wild thyme, Nell finds memories of her past at every turn. But much has changed since she’s been away.
As Nell throws herself into restoring the honey farm, she starts to unlock the truth of what happened all those years ago. She soon learns that the course of true love – just like Cretan honey – can be wild and sweet. And well worth the wait..
Jo Thomas shares her travel and food tips:
“For me starting a new book always feels like a bit like opening the pantry and seeing what ingredients you’ve got in. When I thought about Greece, I pictured the making of a Greek Salad: crumbly white feta, shiny black olives, crunchy cucumber and juice red tomatoes. But when I arrived in Crete I realised there was so much more to discover about its mountainous country and its food. According to Greek mythology, the god Zeus was born in a mountain cave in Crete and was looked after by a nymph Melissa, who fed him milk and honey. the honey in Crete is amazing. It’s flavoured by the wild herbs that grow in the mountains, specifically specially dittany or erontas, which translates as ‘love’ And it’s here I found the heart of my story.
I do hope you enjoy Nell’s journey into the heart of the Cretan mountains”
