2000s – A Boxer in Belize takes up the fight of his life and it’s not in the ring this time
Boxer Miles Young likes the adoration and fame that his sport in the small country of Belize. He might hang up his gloves once and for all but the thrill of one more fight keeps him going. Not to mention the small matter of how he will cope financially if he did stop.
His promoter has a better idea however – if he will help a woman find her daughter who has run off with some of her mother’s money and her corrupt boyfriend. In return, Miles gets put on a fight card with a $30,000 payday.
Belize, is a small central American country with rain forests, caves, jungle, the Caribbean sea to the East. Miles lives in Belize but his view of his country is not one of paradise but of a sports arena where life is measured by fights and by his next pay check. The adoration of others is what drives him and the excitement like a drug to him.
When he is drawn into finding a missing girl, he swaps one drug for another. The world of drugs, money laundering and corruption of all kinds to be exact.
Belize has that hidden setting, that exotic setting not written about much and the landscape and culture of the city is great to discover – this is Miles home and he remembers it fondly –
This is now the city which has made him what he is, and now as he gets further into the murky world of corruption and drugs, he sees his former life, his ‘fame’ as nothing more than him being a small fish in a big pond. A boxer turned detective might not be the best equipped to find this woman, but the heat of the boxing ring will stand him in good stead for what lies ahead – the humid jungle and the remote hideouts he encounters as he tries to track down the runaways.
