Travel Guide

“Corrigan”, Western Australia (fictional)

The real life town of Pemberton stood in for Corrigan in the film version of the novel.

The place here is not vital to the plot but rather the setting – ie how a mixed race teen who lives on both the outskirts of town and society can feel an outsider in so many other ways.

The town is small scale and is predominantly white so when the boys discover a secret, revelation of this secret could proof to be the ultimate separation of white and black.

Remember this is 1965, the Vietnam war is ongoing and so often people from this part of the world are not treated with respect.

Think Stand by me, Huckleberry Finn set in Western Australia.
