This is the story of one Eva and Eva’s journey to becoming a chef
from the point of view of people she meets, even some she doesn’t. But she has an affect on more people than she can imagine
Lars her father is a chef and he becomes a single father when his wife leaves him to move abroad. He tries to give Eva Everythigng he can so that she doesn’t miss out on anything in life. But it’s his love of food that she loves the most. As she grows up, it’s clear she has the same gift for cooking and the journey she will go on from one food to the next, one pepper eating contest to the next will be one course of delightful flavours after the next.
But the story starts with Lutefisk, hope and a good chuck of good Midwestern food. Complete with Pat’s Bars. Get your taste buds ready, you’re in for a tasty treat….
Travel Guide
The areas of St Paul’s and Minneapolis is commonly known as ‘ the cities’ or the ‘Twin cities’. Minneapolis–Saint Paul is built around the Mississippi, Minnesota and St. Croix rivers. Minneapolis has the largest population in Minnesota, and Saint Paul is the state capital. But never mind the geography for this is a foodie booktrail :
If your idea of fun is discovering the cuisines and flavours of the American /midwest, then this is the book and travel guide and book of recipes for you! Chapters headed by names of food. Lutefisk, Chocolate Habanero oh and those Pat Prager’s bars. And then there’s this roadmap of flavours;
“The third dish, a tiny cut of venison steak, about half the size of a playing card, with tomatoes and sweet pepper jelly, was a different matter. The venison, firm enough to meet your teeth, and soft enough to yield agreeably in your mouth, revealed subtle, steely new flavors with each bite, while the tomatoes were so full of richness and warm blood, it was like eating a sleeping animal.”
Minneapolis was heavily influenced by its early Scandinavian heritage in particular and the story of the Lutefisk more than showcases this in history of the food and traditions themselves.
