Laura lives with her family in the Big Woods of Wisconsin. There is no other houses for miles, just trees all around them. She lives there with her Ma and Pa, sister Mary and baby sister Carrie.
This is the classic story by Laura Ingalls Wilder about life on the frontier and America’s best-loved pioneer family.
Life in Big Woods is never easy but sometimes it feels dangerous and dark.Animals roam and the wind whistles loudly. Laura Ingalls Wilder herself was born in the Wisconsin woods in 1867and wrote both this and the Little House books based on her own experiences growing up on the Western frontier.
Pepin was the home of Laura and there is now a Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum in her memory which is the main tourist attraction in the small town
“The great, dark trees of the Big Woods stood all around the house, and beyond them were other trees and beyond them were more trees. As far as a man could go to the north in a day, or a week, or a whole moth, there was nothing but woods”
“Wolves lived in the Big Woods, and bears, and huge wild cats, Muskrats and mink and otter lived by the stream”
