The Cold War is at its peak and there are some dark days ahead. British Lieutenant Daniel Gardiner accepts a posting to a town in the remote wilderness of the South Australian desert.
The future of this country, this young country is being decided and played out on the world stage but its people aren’t part of the decision making.
Once in Maralinga, Daniel finds himself in one of the most violent and unforgiving landscapes, and most importantly, the site of a nuclear testing plant which will have grave consequences for all concerned.
Later journalist Elizabeth Hoffmann travels halfway around the world searching for answers, and her lost love. What she finds in Maralinga is both unexpected and potentially devastating.
