The book is set in the region of Valle del Cauca which is near to the city of Cali. You can actually visit the Hacienda El Paraíso which was the setting for the novel and where the lovers lived. It’s now a museum and is definitely worth a visit.
There are literally pages of description of Colombia which is good for booktrailing purposes and you certainly are taken right into the heart of the country. As well as the landscape, the depiction of the country’s people, and their feelings makes up the rest of this love story – when love was rather a formal “procedure” rather than a free flowing feeling.
