A delicious story of a department store heiress, her messy marriage, and her passion for food.
Cassie Blake, heiress to San Francisco’s most exclusive department store, has been married to Aidan for ten years. But when she discovers that he is having an affair with one of his students, she moves in with a friend in Presidio Heights.
If this weren’t enough to contend with, Cassie’s mum wants her to make the department store’s food department, the new place to be seen in San Francisco. She loves food and has always had a passion for it – but is this her mother’s ruse to try and get her more involved in the store?
Cassie’s appears to be as up and down as the streets of San Francisco itself and the city really shines in this novel. The food, the places to see an be seen and the atmosphere of the city by the bay quite literarily jumps off the page. Most of the iconic sights are visited such as Presidio Heights and a certain hip department store called Fentons which we are sure really is Bloomingdales in disguise.
Market Street of course is the title of the book and the main place to visit here – iconic street in San Francisco and one which comes to life here. And oh the bay – you can hear the seals barking and feel the wind from the sea in your hair.
