Life at university was good – for a while. When Ewan Strachan and Mick Roslyn were at university together they became good friends. The novel opens with an apparent suicide of a female student at the university. This colours a troublesome time for the two friends but we leave these days behind and jump 25 years with this lingering in the background. The gothic spears of the Cathedral rise above the dark and chilling scene.
Anita Sundström working for the Skåne police is an attractive if yet disorganized individual, but she’s the calm which balances out the chauvinistic boss Erik Moberg. This high profile murder makes her city a dark and dangerous place especially when she falls for the prime suspect. The case is significant as it is a direct reminder of another high profile murder – that of the Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme – and Mick was working on a project which threatened to shed a light on this still unsolved case. Olof Palme was murdered coming out of a cinema with his wife on a inner city street -Sveavägen – in Stockholm and the murder has never been solved. This case has troubled the Swedish people ever since as they were always proud of how such high profile people felt free enough to walk the streets without security. But now, things have changed. Malmö is even likened to an American inner city-
Could the town of Malmö now be experiencing that level of uncertainty and fear? Anita isn’t even sure if those within the local police force can always be the beacon of truth.
Locations and friends tied and twisted together.
