Discovered in a Berlin cabaret in the roaring twenties, she is brought to the glamour of Los Angeles. She becomes a superstar of the silver screen and Hollywood’s darling, but nothing perfect lasts forever.
The cost of beauty is always high, for those who have it and those who live in its shadow. The weight falls on her daughter to untangle the complicated truths of being ordinary beside an extraordinary mother, a woman who has bent and broken and skewed her perception of reality, a woman adored by the world, but from whom her daughter longs to escape.
This is a fictional biography of the life of Marlene Dietrich. It is the story of a famous film star, and her daughter MArlene who grows up in her shadow.
The actress grows up and leaves Berlin . However, this was a dangerous time in history as the war was ongoing and many people and countries underestimated the danger of Hitler and what he meant for the Jewish people in particular.
Berlin
There are many places to see and visit which are linked to Marlene. Her place of birth and her gravestone are, of course, must-sees.
Dietrich’s film debut was a small part in the film The Little Napoleon (1923). In 1929, Dietrich landed her breakthrough role of Lola Lola in the film The Blue Angel (1930), shot at Babelsberg film studios.
Los Angeles
In 1930, following the success of The Blue Angel, Dietrich moved to the United States under contract to Paramount Pictures, the U.S. film distributor of the film. She was touted as German’s answer to Greta Garbo.
Dietrich was made an honorary citizen of Berlin on 16 May 2002. Her Berlin Memorial Plaque:

Actress and Singer
She was one of the few German actresses that attained international significance.
Despite tempting offers by the Nazi regime, she emigrated to the USA and became an American citizen.
In 2002, the city of Berlin posthumously made her an honorary citizen.
