2000s – Riley James wants nothing more than to escape his life of crime in Belize but being involved with the drug smuggling family of Belize may not be that easy…
Riley James didn’t have the easiest of starts in life and a tragedy when he was young enslaved him to the infamous Monsanto family, known in Belize as THE drug smuggling family. He escaped prison thanks to them and they intend to remind him every day of the debt he owes.
This debt is partly paid in collecting drug drops and hiding cargo from the Coast Guard but he wants out. He has a woman in his life and co owns a bar. But that’s not something that the Monsanto brothers care to hear. And they intend to make him listen.
Riley James knows Belize like the back of his hand and he has lived and breathed his country all his life. With a hustler for a father and an alcoholic for a mother, he’s been used to weaving in and out the streets, alley ways and dark corners of Belize.
The city and country is all he knows, with the sound of Bob Marley playing in the background –
Working for the Monsanto brothers in the murky world of drugs has given him quite an unique and dark view of the city. A job goes horribly wrong and the debt jumps up by the hands of a police man known as Red Boy or Red Dread depending on the part of town.
A drug smuggler is never going to just be able to walk away but the dark circles he works and lives in seem to getting ever smaller and ever more claustrophobic. He knows a lot of people but none of them with a clean bill of health as regards their past. Every person, like a different part of the city is raw, rough, and complex. Living in the shadows of a shadowy world, but with a colourful cast of characters amidst bloody violence and paradise stained.
