What you need to know before your trail

When Gina arrives in Lake Como, thousands of miles away from her life in the Lake District, she wonders if she’s bitten off more than she can chew. Working for Fabio, running his lakeside hotel, seemed like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. After her world was tragically turned upside down, breaking her heart in the process, she was in desperate need of a fresh start. Plus, it didn’t hurt that Fabio was easy on the eyes…

But it’s not all picturesque mountains, pizza and prosecco. The crumbling guesthouse that Fabio has inherited from his family needs some serious TLC. Is she up to the challenge?

As Gina and Fabio work in close quarters, sparks start to fly. But Fabio has a secret he is scared to share, and Gina has her past to come to terms with. Does her heart belong back home or is a life in the sun – with a very handsome Italian – just the change of scenery she needs?

Travel Guide

The Lake District

The novel opens up in the Lake District and the lovely village of Glenridding. An oasis in the middle of the Lakes with boat rides, lazy summer days and a bustling B and B to keep them all busy.

This is where Gina meets Fabio – who’s planning to walk nearby Scafell pike. It’s not as flat as the rest of the lakes Fabio! Still many people go there every year so it;s a popular place to be.

Lake Ullswater and nearby Windermere really are as nice as they sound.

Lake Como

She finds out about Italian Christmas traditions

The harbour front was strung with lights that illuminated the lake and the cobbled streets. It looked magical. There was a hug fir tree which took pride or place in the village square and Fabio toke me that as well as the usual fairy light and  baubles, the village children decorated the trees with salt-dough Santas and candy canes

The hotel in Lake Como was being renovated and so she starts to face time Fabio and take part. She learns all about the area:

Bellagio is in the distance and there are boats every couple of hours in the winter. There are a couple of restaurants there well worth the visit.

And that’s after landing in Milan and being assaulted by the hustle and bustle. It all sounds and reads like an idyllic paradise!

Booktrailer Review

Susan: @thebooktrailer

This was a fun read. The contrast of the Lake District locations and the Italian ones was nicely done. Both sounded really nice and although the Italian ones are of course more exotic, life in the Lakes just sounds perfect!

There’s always a lovely piece of escapism in Sue Roberts books and this was no exception. Both locations were holiday dreams but this time both came with renovation problems which helps her come to terns with her problematic past.

The scene setting was lovely and the time spent in Lake Como proved to be quite challenging in more ways than one. You can feel the torment Gina feels for wondering if she needs a change of scenery, a change of everything in her life and it was a nice summer journey to go on with her!
