Nasreen’s story is told through the eyes of her grandmother. She tells the story of how once music and art once flourished in the city but now soldiers have come and changed everything. Nasreen’s father is taken by the police and her mum goes out to look for him, leaving Nasreen behind with her grandmother.

She stops speaking and her grandmother is very worried. Then she hears about a secret school that she hopes Nasreen will flourish in. Schools are banned under the Taliban but this school, a secret one in a private house is hopefully going to make a change in both their lives…
