Jennifer MacKenzie being hit by a car was a tragic accident. Or so it seemed. Until Connor is summoned to a meeting his girlfriend’s dad, Duncan McKenzie. MacKenzie claims that Jen’s accident was actually a message intended for him – and a way to force him to kill his trusted lieutenant Paulie King, who has now mysteriously disappeared.

Edinburgh and Victoria Quay
Victoria Quay is a Scottish Government building situated in Leith, Edinburgh, relatively close to the HRY Britannia museum ship. The ship and the history also feature in the novel giving a historical nod to the story.
The building is a crime scene and features heavily in the story – around some 1,500 civil servants work at Victoria Quay.
