2023: Two women meet celebrating their birthdays. That’s all they will ever share, right?
Celebrating her 45th birthday at her local pub, podcaster Alix Summer crosses paths with an unassuming woman called Josie Fair. Josie is also celebrating her 45th.
A few days later, they bump into each other again, this time outside Alix’s children’s school. Josie says she thinks she would be an interesting subject for Alix’s podcast. She is, she tells Alix, on the cusp of great changes in her life.
Alix agrees to a trial interview and indeed, Josie’s life appears to be strange and complicated. Aix finds her unsettling but can’t quite resist the temptation to keep digging.
Slowly Alix starts to realise that Josie has been hiding some very dark secrets, and before she knows it Josie has cajoled her way into Alix’s life – and into her home.
Soon Alix begins to wonder who is Josie Fair really? And what has she done?
London
London is the backdrop to the jawdropping action in the novel. Careful who you talk to in the toilets ladies!
The actions mainly takes place in and around Kilburn but there’s a certain hotel bathroom I would miss if I were you!
The city is a backdrop as this is more of a plot and character novel.
This was twisty and very disturbing. Two women meet in the loos of a restaurant. One does a podcast, the other finds out they share a birthday. They meet up again – one podcast is all about birthday twins.
Well, that’s the only normal thing these women share. The only thing. Alix is the podcast queen but Josie becomes obsessed with her and their two lives start to merge in the most unexpected of ways.
Josie – what kind of twisted woman was she? Alix is hardly painted in a good light – what is going on at home? It was hard to know who to believe but that’s the thing – what a twisty tail of cat and mouse. Just who is the cat and is there more than one?
Twisty and your head hurts when you’ve finished.
