A coming-of-age story, Northanger Abbey is often referred to as Jane Austen’s “Gothic parody.”
Catherine Morland leaves her sheltered, rural home to enter the busy, sophisticated world of Bath in the late 1790s. She must find her feet and begin to understand a world that she is fast becoming part of.
From a sheltered upbringing, her path to Bath society is not going to be an easy one. Old crumbling castles, locked rooms and larger than life figures provide the history and the humour.
