What you need to know before your trail

German intelligence officer Captain Gregor Reinhardt has just been reassigned to the Feldjaegerkorps – a new branch of the military police with far-reaching powers. This means he is no longer working with the friends ad colleagues he’s made over the past two years – including a circle of fellow dissenting Germans who formed a rough resistance cell against the Nazis. And he needs them now more than ever.

Reinhardt witnesses a massacre of civilians by the dreaded Usta e – only to later find out that this already sinister incident might be a lot worse than anyone could ever have imagined. Then five mutilated bodies turn upand suddenly his worse nightmare comes true. But as he investigates, those in power start to get twitchy. His friends and associates start to feel the pressure – and to make matters even more complicated, his own past with the Usta e threatens his efforts.

Reinhardt has a past that could come back and ruin everything, putting him and those around him in danger

Travel Guide

Vienna – Feldjaegerkorps

The wide boulevard of Stubenring is where the old Austro- Hungarian defence ministry building , now one of the main German headquarters in the city. With the atmosphere and legacy of what has happened in here, it’s no surprise that there is a warren of rooms inside and it’s even colder inside than out

Sarajevo

Reinhardt often thinks of Sarajevo when he’s not there – the long riverside walk there , “the Ottoman bridges that arced over the froth-flecked rush of the Miljacka

The woods and valley just outside of the city war where they find the soldiers and the massacred..

The city centre

They pass underneath the banded walls of the Town Hall – the Rathaus – the cellars of which Reinhardt had spent those several days being questioned by the Gestapo. Bentbasa is described as a Oriental warren and Bascarsija, the Old Ottoman square with its fountain, artisans, coffee shops and mosques. The refugees are crowded round the Bascarsija and the crowds are filling the square.

The Kosovo Polje barracks are on the other side of town
