Inspector Moreno’s investigations are starting to uncover a dangerous world of gangsters, prostitutes and eccentric British expats. Human remains have been found close to a little mountain village,.
Solving crime in the height of the Andalusian Summer is thirsty work, but Moreno is seldom far from a glass of something cold – and of course, a delicious tapas or two to go with it.
There’s a region of mountain villages known as Las Alpujarras which are located on to the side of the Sierra Nevada. They are deep, sheltered valleys and gorges which run down towards the Mediterranean. Known more popularly as The Alpujarra, this area is famous in the Sierra Nevada and indeed through much of Spain unique mini-ecology.
It might be the expat town in the novel but in real life, this little village is like stepping into the past – it’s more than preserved its Morisco feel and character. It’s like the town time forgot in many ways and is a little jewel in the Sierra Nevada crown. Due to its geographical isolation, it has always developed its own distinct culture and in the past Las Alpujarras was an important agricultural emporium specializing in the production of silk no less!
