2022: The glittering world of Pineapple Street, Brooklyn Heights
Darley, the eldest daughter in the well-connected, carefully-guarded Stockton family, has never had to worry about money. Darley followed her heart, trading her job and her inheritance for motherhood, sacrificing more of herself than she ever intended. Sasha, Darley’s new sister-in-law, has come from more humble origins, and her hesitancy about signing a pre-nup has everyone worried about her intentions. And Georgiana, the baby of the family, has fallen in love with someone she can’t (and really shouldn’t) have, and must confront the kind of person she wants to be.
The Pineapple Street of the title is located in Brooklyn Heights and it’s a real street! Located next to a park and the river, it would be the perfect pied-a-terre like that in the novel. Mind you, you would need new money and a good career to keep it going. Sasha comes into this family fro the outside and worries how she is going to fit in. This is another world.
The world of the haves and the have nots is apparent and it is shown with all its complexities for everyone to look at here. Sasha might now live on Pineapple Street but she is from a much less wealthy background.
Sasha – poor girl. Marrying into a family with money and more than that, a sense of entitlement can’t be easy. Still, I was interested to read this character study of a novel and to see the world of the haves and have nots. There are emotions galore in this witty read. A cocktail of emotions if you will, with a sharp taste and a level of toxicity you’re never quite sure of, al topped off with an umbrella representing those less posh amongst us, all with a cherry on the top. The aftertaste of the class difference and the way people look down on others llingers.
