A special delivery just for you, your very own letter from Postman Pat! There’s trouble in Greendale and Postman Pat needs your help with his tricky delivery. With a fantastic letter to read and keep, this wonderful book is perfect for storytime.
Greendale and the nearby town of Pencaster are both fictional but clearly inspired by the area on the border of Cumbria and the Lake District where the creator of Postman Pat lived. Greendale took inspiration from Kendal and Longsleddale. Pencaster is said to be modelled on Lancaster.
Greendale is a large, busy village situated in the heart of the Cumbrian countryside. There’s a High Street which has a postoffice run by the lovely Mrs Goggins who also lives there. Many of the residents seem to come here and use it as their second home. It’s amazing what you hear and find out when you’re standing in the post office!
There’s a station on the edge of the village and this is where the Greendale Rocket ‘lives’ . Ajay runs a regular service from here to the nearby town of Pencaster.
To imagine you’re on “The Greendale Rocket” , the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway has a nice steam train.
Many of the roads in and around the village are narrow and wind round corners with hedgerows and fields on both sides. In the winter Pat often has a problem driving his van.
Pencaster is a large, bustling, modern town not far from Greendale. It has a market square and many shops. It’s inspired by Lancaster and this is indeed a short ride from Longsleddale aka Greendale.
