2024: DI Bernie Noel goes back to work after maternity leave.
When DI Bernie Noel goes back to work after maternity leave, she doesn’t expect to find a crashed car with a dead driver on her journey in. But a gruesome discovery in the boot of the car turns a road traffic accident into something more sinister and personal for the detective. It isn’t long before Bernie is forced to rewind six years and confront her failed covert operation in London. But as she relives that failure, can she survive the present danger too?
Peckham Pub
‘Welcome to Peckham’ sign on the Prince Peckham pub. Not actually mentioned in the book but behind it is a small estate that I’ve used as the location for a fictional estate called Fourways. It has a really tall tower block of twenty storeys which is called Witcombe Point, with smaller blocks around it. In the book I’ve made it a bigger estate that has a youth centre with a MUGA. (So two places in one there!)
Bus stop near Peckham Library.
There’s actually quite a big bus station near the estate but Bernie wants to avoid catching a bus there as she’s hoping to keep a low profile. She spots a possible gang member from the SE15 gang ahead of her and follows him all the way to a car park on Whitcomb Road in Central London. The same car park where she’s due to meet DI Jack Thornton, her boss. Has she discovered an informant in the gang?
