2000s: Mark Novak’s greatest mystery might just be his own …
Private Investigator Mark Novak’s relentlessness as an investigator has been his professional calling card as well as his curse. There is one case however that he’s never managed to look into – that of his wife’s death.
One day he does return to the scene of her murder however, a country road outside Cassadaga, Florida. When there he uncovers disturbing leads that show how her murder might be connected to Novak’s own troubled youth in Montana. He can’t help but take this further and look into the matter himself. As he does so, he heads back to the mining towns of Montana which he thought he’d left behind forever. However, he discovers there are more than just bad memories to be found when you go digging up the past.
Novak faces an adversary more frightening than he’s ever known, and a secret that has followed him through his entire life. And now he has arrived at a crossroads. Which is the road to hell or the route to salvation?

In bad weather power outages are commonplace but now even the hospital is running on power generators and repairs are rarely quick affairs in Montana apparently.
The Road to Cooke City was filled with ghosts. Just hope none of them are sitting at the Miners Saloon in main street – feature in the novel so perfect for a quite beer.
Silver Gate and Cook city had both been retreats for Mark as both his uncles had been found of these places. Just over the Beartooth mountains
In Silvergate there was a wooden bridge that crossed over the Soda Butte Creek
