2000s: Can you really ever run away from your past?
Love hurts. There is nothing as painful as heartbreak. But in order to learn to love again you must learn to trust again.
When a mysterious young woman named Katie appears in the small town of Southport, her sudden arrival raises questions about her past. Beautiful yet unassuming, Katie is determined to avoid forming personal ties until a series of events draws her into two reluctant relationships.
Despite her reservations, Katie slowly begins to let down her guard, putting down roots in the close-knit community. But even as Katie starts to fall in love, she struggles with the dark secret that still haunts her
This is the town of Safe Haven and there are m plenty of havens to be had here! Reading ones, beach ones, seashore ones and restaurant ones to name but a few.
The beach and the Fort Fisher area might be the most iconic sites in the town but Southport’s old style city blocks are where the dramatic Fourth of July scenes were filmed.
The Ports of Call restaurant is a good one to eat at whilst on a booktrail and even read the section of the novel where a nice little scene plays out. Try an oyster if you’re brave enough and really want to taste the novel!
And for real restaurant envy – to see where Kate worked in the film – the Old American Fish Co. restaurant on the seafront is where you want to travel to next.
The Fishy Fishy Cafe just up the coast is where a lot of the filming took place and where the crew were seen to hang out.
