What you need to know before your trail

Ollie and Magnus Jonson have spent years trying to escape from the shadows of their past. Raised on a remote farmstead in Iceland, both brothers had to endure brutal violence at the hands of their grandfather. Now, two decades later, the past has returned to haunt them both.

Constable Páll Gylfason gets a dispatch call to investigate a suspected homicide in a remote farmstead. When he gets there,  he’s surprised to find that Sergeant Magnus Jonson is already at the scene.
Magnus identifies the dead man as his estranged grandfather But as Páll begins to review the crime scene he realises that Magnus’ testimony and the forensics at the scene don’t add up.

Magus is arrested and taken away. But it also turns out that younger brother, Ollie, is also in the neighbourhood.

Travel Guide

Rural Iceland

Bjarnarhöfn – There is a shark museum on this little island in this little village. Hardcore. ” The fell, the fjord and the lava were the walls to Oli’s prison”

Arnarstapi, Iceland – “The path wound through black lava from the tiny village of Hallnar to Arnarstapi a couple of kilometres away, where he and Johannese ha dparked their car.”

Eyjafjallajökull –  The volcano at the centre of the plot

Set against a background of the erupting Eyjafjallajökull volcano, the chilling and unusual backdrop makes for a landscape where ghosts and spectral creatures are hovering in the background and the folklore of the region. The communities, tucked away, are made up of those you can see and those you can’t.

Stykkishólmur – Stykkishólmur is a town in the western part of Iceland, in the northern part of the Snæfellsnes peninsula. Most of the people who live there make their living from fishing and tourism
