2000s: A Yorkshire man goes to the Amalfi coast to see what all the fuss is about
Martin was not the kind of man you would expect to end up travelling to the Amalfi Coast. He’s a stanch supporter of football, makes model aircraft in his shed in Yorkshire, and aged 50 plus, he likes the more sedate activities in life. But his love for football introduces him to Italy and the Italian football players. He starts to look longingly at this part of the world and vows to go there one day.
When he gets the chance to go, he heads out there with his wife to see the country he’s always dreamed of. He fancies a change but the biggest one is how travel changes him..
Imagine a country you’ve always wanted to go to and then your dreams become reality. What is travel? Is it a chance to grow, escape, find new things, lose old habits or all of these things and more?
Travelling along the Amalfi Coast to Naples and beyond is definitely a life changing experience
“Naples’ roads are terrifying. There is no order n the motorways other than a common tendency to drive with the white lines of the road directly underneath them”
“Down alley ways I see rows of washing stretching across, high in the air…. I remember Martin telling me about the rubbish problems Naples had a few years ago….People sit outside their homes on chairs….I count several stray dogs on our journey so far, one with only three legs….”
And Martin’s answer “It’s bloody brilliant isn’t it?”
