Kate Daniels is back and this case is proving to be a strange one. A young girl is found dead at the base of Hadrian’s Wall. It’s soon discovered that she was killed since she has fallen from a great height, probably thrown. And worse was that she was still alive before she hit the ground.
When a local and prominent businessman reports his daughter missing, Kate thinks she may have found who her victim is. But what she finds out is altogether more disturbing.

Adam Finch, the man who believes his daughter Jessica could be the victim, is a very rich and powerful man. He seems to own half of the North East and he enjoys golf with Daniels’ boss. His daughter is missing and the link between the two – the university in town. Students going missing – who all look alike.
And all the while, there is a young girl named Jessica being held somewhere on the vast, unwieldily Pennines.
