A hostage crisis is developing at a castle on the outskirts of Glasgow, during what is supposed to be Superintendent Catherine McLeod’s bank holiday relaxation time.
Those trapped inside the castle are used to dealing with the volatile mix of light-fingered teens and obnoxious tourists; less so a truckload of explosives and a hidden agenda. For Catherine and her team, it’s a recipe for a potentially deadly day off.
This is a day out you won’t forget!
A Siege Tower is taken over by ISIS terrorists, holding the tourists inside as hostages.
Now, luckily in the real world, this is a lovely castle to visit but if you take this short story with you, it could be a very interesting visit!
To be fair, it’s the ideal setting for a siege story – the castle has been fought over for many many years – in particular during the Wars of Independence with England. It was built in the 1200s, but has been frequently been passed back and forth between English and Scottish hands.
Edward I’s great siege of 1301 – meant the castle was never completed to its original plan. So, the prison towers and circular keep tower have that menacing sense of decay and unfinished business about them.
