Spike Sanguinetti is horrified to have to go see his aunt and uncle in Makta. they’ve just been found dead. Reports say that a domestic struggle turned into something all the more horrific.

Malta is a clever choice of backdrop for this novel. It’s a multi-layered country in many ways both in geographical and historical terms. The layout of the various sections of society from the squalid migrant camps to the bustling city to Marsa where the seamier side of life on the island resides. As Sanguinetti crosses the island back and forth in the race for clues, the history of the island unfurls as well.
