What you need to know before your trail

On a farm in rural Pakistan,  little Rani is surprised when her mother brings a chicken to the house as a pet. The chicken is sick so Ami says they will look after it. But Rani is not very pleased to have been cast aside in her mother’s affections with a chicken! Particularly one that can’t  even lay eggs.

As Rani is told to fetch sticks, get food, and help build the chicken a nest, she can’t help but think that this silly chicken is now her mother’s favourite. She wants it gone!

But then the chicken goes missing – and Rani sees how upset her mother is. Careful what you wish for!

Travel Guide

Set on a farm in rural Pakistan, the book does a lovely job of depicting life in another country and climate. The earth  is burnt orange, yellow, the house is green with wooden doors and the animals roam in the yard outside. A delightful look at rural life in Pakistan – from the clothes the characters wear to the scenery and life on the farm……but with one annoying chicken –

Rani says “She acts more like an old woman than a chicken”

One summers day, the hen has disappeared, so Rani feeling guilty does everything she can to find it, scouring the farm and all its hiding places. Where would  a chicken hide?

Jealousy turns into guilt as the little girl hunts high and low for Bibi and there’s a twist coming that no one expected!

A lovely lesson of sibling rivalry from the other side of the world – and with a chicken! Delightful
