What you need to know before your trail

Suspended from duty, Detective Frølich is working as a private investigator, when his girlfriend’s colleague asks for his help with a female asylum seeker, who the authorities are about to deport. She claims to have a sister in Norway, and fears that returning to her home country will mean instant death.

Frølich quickly discovers the whereabouts of the young woman’s sister, but things become increasingly complex when she denies having a sibling, and Frølich is threatened off the case by the police. As the body count rises, it becomes clear that the answers lie in an old investigation, and the mysterious sister, who is now on the run…

A dark, chilling and up-to-the-minute Nordic Noir thriller, Sister is also a tense and well-plotted murder mystery with a moving tragedy at its heart, cementing Kjell Ola Dahl as one of the greatest crime writers of our generation.

Travel Guide

Travel to Oslo and Jeloya Island BookTrail style

The series contains to be set in Oslo, but this one travels further afield and especially up towards  Jeloya Island. There is a refugee centre at the heart of the novel which is set outside of the city in Elvestad so you do get to travel quite a bit in this book.

The story is centered around a missing person and the refugee issue in Norway such as the incoming immigrants who arrive in Oslo and who are then sent to the aforementioned refugee centre. There is also mention of a tragedy involving a ferry which caught fire killing over a hundred passengers and this leads to a close examination of the police’s role in society. Lots of tough social commentary here!

The subject matter is typically bleak but the sun is shining in the novel – well in the sky at least! When it’s sunny, crime and criminal happenings seem all the more serious and deadly.
