20C – Slaughter in the Cotswolds? Death in paradise? Well there is a place called Lower Slaughter….
Thea Osborne is once again house sitting, this time in Lower Slaughter for Babs and Cedric Angell. This time she hopes the peace and quiet are going to relax her and help her come to terms with the death of her father. At least this trip away will allow her to spend time on her own away from her nosy although well meaning relatives. She takes her faithful friend Hepzie for company however and looks after the animals at the Angell’s house. But then Thea’s sister rocks up the house unexpectedly and she tells her that she’s witnessed a horrific killing.
Could Lower Slaughter be more like its name than it would like to believe?
Lower Slaughter is a real place and the house she is is looking after is very old. ‘Low slung and neglected”
The owners were a dying breed – Cotswold born and bread, he a gamekeeper and she a former postmistress.”
But the destination although slaughter by name is rather more sedate by nature:
Turns out that the name is intrinsically linked the goings on that Thea stumbles across. Emotions are also running high and Thea’s relationships are going through some changes. Her sister’s shock announcement pulls her into the macabre side of Lower Slaughter and soon the name will give you the chills!
