2000s: Casey Carter – cleared of murder but still under suspicion
Casey Carter was convicted of murdering her fiancé fifteen years ago. But Casey claims – has always claimed – she’s innocent. And although she was charged and served out her sentence in prison, she is still living ‘under suspicion’. She hears whispers at the grocery store. She can’t get a job. Even her own mother treats her like she’s guilty.
Her story attracts the attention of Laurie Moran and the Under Suspicion news team – it’s Casey’s last chance to finally clear her name, and Laurie pledges to exonerate her.
Now Laurie must face an egomaniacal new co-host, a relentless gossip columnist who seems to have all the dirt and Casey’s longstanding bad reputation to once and for all prove Casey’s innocence –that is, if she’s innocent…
“Connecticut spans just 110 miles from east to west. And 70 miles from north to south.” This is the city where the story unravels and where the novel opens. The focus of the city here is the York Correctional Centre not far from Old Saybrook another prison where she is more than familiar.
There is of course much more to see in CT than in this novel – in this southern area there are plenty of wildlife marshes such as Ragged Rock Creek and Great Island Wildlife.
This city certainly doesn’t sleep in this novel! Ladyform have their offices here and it’s where the newspaper column the Chatter is based – plenty to talk about here of course. Laurie feels she knows everyone in the city.
